Perhaps the best use of celebrity and notoriety is the ability to raise awareness and funds for worthy causes. Take Rob Light for example. Ranked number 7 in Billboard’s Power 100, this Creative Artists Agency Managing Partner/Head of Music creates opportunities for some of the biggest names in music, and is a certified leader in the music industry. Still, he finds time to give back and inspire other industry leaders and creative powerhouses to do the same. This season he leads the charge by organizing the Summer of Hope, a social media and marketing effort to benefit cancer research and treatment center City of Hope. No wonder the organization’s Music and Entertainment industry group is honoring him with their Spirit of Life award this fall.
“Like the music industry, City of Hope touches lives worldwide, bringing hope and encouragement to individuals and their families,” Light said in a release. “To unite these two forces for such a powerful need is exciting, and I am proud to be a part of that.”
The first effort of its kind; Summer of Hope launched last week on the first day of summer and aims to promote cancer, diabetes and HIV/AIDS education and breakthroughs in research and treatment. With the help of Light and his notable network, the net is being cast wide to provide hope to patients, survivors and their families. Among the big names that are using their fan base to spread the word are Selena Gomez, Adam Levine, Pit Bull, David Guetta, Christina Aguilera and Justin Bieber, with more joining in

Sometimes the best giving comes from corporations. We love seeing big business dedicate time and funds to champion the not for profit causes significant to them. Participating in projects that enrich and nurture our communities keeps the corporate conscience honest, creates a climate of giving, and adds character and integrity to the company culture.
On Thursday, May 23rd sister telecommunications giants Dimension Data and NTT Communications Corporation did just that; hosting a service day in the name of Harlem Grown. Founded by Tony Hillery, the organization grows urban farms in Harlem with the goal of connecting our communities to nature and green spaces, read: healthier foods. “You have pizza, fried chicken, fried fish, fried everything. I couldn’t get a healthy meal,” Hillery told Emma LaPerruque last year. “I said to myself: Why not do something?” Read The Rest
