It’s been a while since I posted, but the Kennedy Center Honors has taken me out of this hiatus with its 40th annual national celebration of the arts held on December 3, 2017. The 2017 recipients included American dancer and choreographer Carmen de Lavallade, Cuban American singer-songwriter and actress Gloria Estefan, American television writer and producer Norman Lear, American musician and record producer Lionel Richie and American hip hop artist and entertainment icon LL COOL J (aka Uncle L!! The first rapper to receive this honor!!)
Rihanna has been named the 2017 Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year, and will accept the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award at a ceremony next Tuesday (Feb. 28).
“Rihanna has charitably built a state-of- the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados,” said S. Allen Counter, the Harvard Foundation’s director. Read The Rest

Boys & Girls Harbor announced that Naomi Campbell will join Keith Clinkscales and Lyor Cohen as an event chair for the organization’s Salute to Achievement on Monday, September 26th at Lincoln Center, David Koch Theater located at 20 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York City. The event will honor Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and will feature a special performance by Audra Day.
Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation (RPAF) raised $1.25 million at its annual ART FOR LIFE Benefit on July 16th at Fairview Farms in Bridgehampton, NY. Proceeds from ART FOR LIFE benefit the Foundation’s signature arts education and gallery programs, which have directly served tens of thousands of inner-city youth over the past 20 years. Eight food, wine and spirits trailblazers came together at the legendary James Beard House in New York City for the 2nd Annual Iconoclast Dinner Experience. It was an intimate evening that celebrated the life and legacy of the late James Beard Award winning chef, Patrick Clark and honored an impressive roster of experts of color while guests took part in a gastronomic experience curated by the honorees.
The event also honored trailblazers in the culinary, wine and spirits fields while raising scholarship funds to benefit the Spelman College students from Jamaica and sub-Saharan African countries. Read The Rest
On Monday, June 13, the Beyond the Boroughs National Scholarship Fund hosted their second Annual Benefit and Awards Dinner at the Dream Downtown hotel honoring Chef Richard Ingraham and Malik Yoba. 100 supporters attended the event to raise money for the scholarship fund.
