Rihanna Named Humanitarian of the Year by Harvard Foundation

Rihanna has been named the 2017 Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year, and will accept the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award at a ceremony next Tuesday (Feb. 28).

“Rihanna has charitably built a state-of- the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados,” said S. Allen Counter, the Harvard Foundation’s director. Read The Rest

Dita Von Teese Strips Down for Charity

dita-perform-color2Dita Von Teese brought some sex appeal to the Hamptons charity circuit over the weekend.
Stripping down to little more than lace and feathers, she closed out Saturday’s Labor of Love event — which benefitted Housing Works — with a sexy burlesque performance.

A spy tells us the crowd was “surprised and delighted” as the seductress “ultimately went fully topless and danced off the stage covered only by beautiful burlesque feather fans.”

Three hundred people attended the soiree, held at “The Points Guy” Brian Kelly’s private Hamptons residence. The event is estimated to have raised over $40,000.

MTV & Make-A-Wish Partner to Give 4 Teens a VMAs to Remember – Beyonce, Alicia, Britney, KimYe and more (PICS)

For the third year in a row, MTV granted four incredible wishes for four very special girls on Sunday at the VMA. Grace Fulcher, Madison “Madi” Haggard, Sierra Mason (all 16) and Samantha Savioe (14) — spent four magical days behind the scenes of the awards show thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes for kids living with serious medical conditions.
“In a very short amount of time, we were able to create an incredible four-day experience for these incredible girls, who are all going through tremendously difficult and uncertain times in their young lives,” said Matt McDonough, Senior Director, MTV Digital Strategy & Fan Engagement. These were wishes 18 through 22 for Matt says he’s been lucky enough to be a part of at MTV.

Naomi Campbell to Chair Event Honoring Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Proceeds to Benefit Boys & Girls Harbor

Boys & Girls Harbor announced that Naomi Campbell will join Keith Clinkscales and Lyor Cohen as an event chair for the organization’s Salute to Achievement on Monday, September 26th at Lincoln Center, David Koch Theater located at 20 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York City.  The event will honor Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and will feature a special performance by Audra Day.

There was an incredible week/weekend of performances at the BACARDÍ and Swizz Beatz’ Dean Collection Present No Commission: Art Performs – a multi-day immersive event where art and music collided for showcases by day and night.  The experience featured musical performances, visual art galleries featuring famed artists including Kehinde Wiley, Tomokazu Matsuyama, and Zio Ziegler, and immersive installations in the Bronx, all in celebration of the artist hustle, where it all began.  No Commission is a platform that’s designed specifically to support artists, and forges a direct link between artists’ practices and art patronage.  All artists are given their exhibition space for free and 100% of the sale of each artwork goes directly back to them.  The event closed this weekend with 98% of the art being sold. Kevin Hart Hosts Rally HealthFest in NYC

Rally Health, actor, comedian and Rally Health Ambassador Kevin Hart, and E! News host Maria Menounos hosted a free outdoor health festival, Rally HealthFest, at Nelson A. Rockefeller Park in Battery Park City, lower Manhattan a couple of weeks ago.  They wanted to show New Yorkers how making simple lifestyle changes can be a lot of fun and help improve their overall health.

The New York Rally HealthFest featured fitness activities including boot camps, yoga classes, rock climbing and spin classes, as well as an interactive kids’ zone, all supported by Rally partner Asphalt Green, an NYC nonprofit. Attendees also had a chance to participate in a group workout with Ron “Boss” Everline, Kevin Hart’s personal trainer; get nutritional tips from young celebrity chef Haile Thomas; and earn prizes for participating in activities. There were be plenty of healthy eats and beverages from Juice Press. Attendees also joined Rally partner DiamondBack to help build bicycles that will be donated to Madison Square Boys and Girls Club. DAILY SHOW’S ROY WOOD, JR. HEADS COMEDY SHOW TO BENEFIT NATIONAL URBAN FELLOWS PROGRAM

On August 9th, 2016 at the New York Chapter of the National Urban Fellows (NUF) hosted a one-night fundraiser at the famous Gotham Comedy Club. The event featured Comedy Central’s The Daily Show Correspondent Roy Wood, Jr. and five up-and-rising NYC based comedians: Vince Chang, Kerry Coddett, Vince August, David Suarez, Michelle Felice Hartley and Alex Barnett. The comedic all-star line up took a break from their day – for Mr. Wood Jr., his ‘night job’ at the Daily Show with Trevor Noah to head the First Annual NUF Fundraiser and Comedy Show at Gotham Comedy Club. The show benefited the incoming cohort of 16 students enrolled in the 2016-2017 National Urban Fellows program. Read The Rest

Michael Jordan Donates $5 Mil to the National Museum of African American History and Culture

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture announced yesterday that Michael Jordan will donate $5 million to support the new museum, which will open Sept. 24. In addition, Jordan will donate a game-worn 1996 NBA Finals home jersey to the museum’s permanent collection.

In recognition of his generosity, a section of the museum’s Sports Gallery will be named “The Michael Jordan Hall: Game Changers.” The hall is dedicated to the people and institutions whose actions changed their sport, transcended their game and transformed society. Jordan is featured as a “game changer” along with 16 others, including tennis great Althea Gibson and Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens.

Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation (RPAF) raised $1.25 million at its annual ART FOR LIFE Benefit on July 16th at Fairview Farms in Bridgehampton, NY. Proceeds from ART FOR LIFE benefit the Foundation’s signature arts education and gallery programs, which have directly served tens of thousands of inner-city youth over the past 20 years.
