When you think of philanthropy in Hollywood the names Rodney Peete and Holly Robinson Peete are some of the first to come to mind. Their HollyRod Foundation has been serving and advocating for families impacted by autism and Parkinson’s disease for over a decade. When the couple launched DesignCare back in 1999 the goal was to support these efforts through fundraising, and boy did they build a strong groundwork. Today it has morphed into one of the most anticipated celebrity events of the summer, featuring live and silent auctions, fashion shows, performances and a star-studded reception.
“Rodney and I are so grateful to our community of friends, family and supporters who keep coming back every year. We are proud to host this special evening that recognizes incredible individuals and corporations for their work to create awareness for autism and Parkinson’s,” Holly Robinson Peete said in a release. “When people are willing to speak out and tell their personal stories, that’s when change happens.”
This year, the 15th annual DesignCare fundraiser will take place at a private estate in Malibu on Saturday, July 27th. Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, composer and producer NeYo will perform, and the fashions of New York based designer Rubin Singer will be showcased on the runway. Also, five exceptional individuals who go to bat for these causes daily will be honored; Actress Tisha Campbell-Martin with the HollyRod “AUsome” Mother of the Year Award; Jordan Pattillo, a young adult living with autism with the HollyRod4Kids Champion Award; Jim Mitchell, CEO of Fuhu, Inc., the creator of the nabi, Fooz Kids and urDrive, with the theHollyRod Corporate Compassion Award; John Ball, author, advocate for Parkinson’s disease and philanthropist, with the Matthew T.
