Harlem Haberdashery and YP4C will be hosting “Elegant For Prom” to encourage young professionals to donate new, gently used and clean prom and/or graduation worthy accessories and clothing for younger males and females of color. This light reception will be held on Thursday, May 8th from 6 to 10 pm at Harlem Haberdashery located at 245 Lenox Avenue. RSVP at elegantforprom.eventbrite.com.

Elegant For Prom Details

They are asking young professionals to donate a gowns or suits, accessories and/or shoes. They also ask that we encourage our fashionable friends and corporate brands to donate items to the drive as well. Harlem Haberdashery will be also accepting gift certificates for local shops and national brand stores to purchase additional needed items that are not donated.
Donations on May 8th will be distributed to graduating high school students selected by Black Women For Black Girls, The Star Boutique and The Brotherhood/Sister Sol. All donations are tax deductible through our nonprofit partners and tax receipts will be mailed upon request.
Conceived and implemented ten years ago by 5001 FLAVORS, the Elegant For Prom drive has serviced over 250 local and national students. This is the second annual drive held at retail partner store Harlem Haberdashery and YP4C is glad to be getting involved. This year alone, they intend to outfit 150 talented and deserving students from the partner organizations.
They want to collect new, gently used and clean prom and/or graduation items including:
  • Accessories (scarves, brooches, sunglasses, evening handbags)
  • Shoes (wingtips, heels, flats)
  • Evening wear (cocktails dresses, gowns, especially plus size for ladies)
  • Evening wear (tuxedo, spring/summer suits, ties, dress shirts)
