On Monday, June 13, the Beyond the Boroughs National Scholarship Fund hosted their second Annual Benefit and Awards Dinner at the Dream Downtown hotel honoring Chef Richard Ingraham and Malik Yoba. 100 supporters attended the event to raise money for the scholarship fund. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour, silent auction and dinner while listening to speeches from the honorees, members of the organization and student scholars.
Beyond the Boroughs was founded by retired NFL Offensive Lineman, Tutan Reyes. The public charity creates deserved college scholarship opportunities for students, with a primary focus on first generation students. Scholarships are “last dollars in” and range up to $5,000 over four years for a total of $20,000.
Our mission is rooted in a refusal to let lingering financial hardship deter the next generation of global contributors. Where there is a supplemental scholarship need and a driven young person, Beyond the Boroughs thrives on the challenge to provide support—money and mentorship—asking only that each member of the Beyond the Boroughs family give back, by one day sharing his or her experience with another. Beyond the Boroughs fills the often-overlooked void of “last dollars in,” helping each student fulfill his or her dream, and frequently becoming the difference between successful enrollment and a crucial, missed opportunity for growth.
