Beyonce Ticket Exchange: Guns for Greatness?

Gun violence has been a hot topic especially since the Sandy Hook Massacre that took the lives of 26 people…  And, violence in Chicago has had chronic problems of fatal gun violence.  Michael “Blue” Williams, who’s managed the careers of OutKast and Cee-Lo, is doing his part to take guns off the street through his Guns for Greatness program.  His proposal to the city aims to encourage young people to turn in guns and sign up for mentorships with a wide range of movers and shakers.  He also hopes to hand out tickets to concerts like Beyonce’s upcoming “Mrs. Carter” tour stop at the Barclay’s Center this August in Brooklyn.  “Blue” is waiting for approval from Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to launch at a Brooklyn church on March 23rd.

Williams’ plan is getting from the likes of his celebrity friends, the religious and political communities.  This is the first private-sector buyback program being pitched to the city.  He’s raised about $75,000 for the effort so far.

Williams said he was prompted to do something about gun violence after his business partner, Chris Lighty, co-founder of Violator records, shot himself to death in August. He said his own recent arrest for bringing a gun he had registered in Georgia but not in New York through LaGuardia Airport was also an “eye-opening experience.” See the full story as it develops at NYDailyNews.com

Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, Carmelo Anthony, John Legend and More Demand a Plan to Stop Gun Violence

Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Courtney Cox, Jennifer Anniston Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell Demand A Plan to end gun violence.

Demand A Plan is a campaign of Mayors Against Illegal Guns. It’s made up of a coalition of mayors working to make America’s communities safer by keeping illegal guns out of dangerous hands. Co-founded in 2006 by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, the coalition has grown from a group of 15 members to more than 850 mayors from 44 states, including Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, from major cities and small towns around the country. They have more than 1.2 million grassroots supporters, making this the largest gun violence prevention advocacy organization in the country.

The group demands that the President and Congress tell us the concrete steps they will take to prevent 33 Americans from being murdered with guns each and every day. And that elected leaders protect every American’s right to safety and security, without living in fear of gun violence.
