This is a pleasant surprise! A partnership between former President Bill Clinton and LA Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant?! I guess this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise since Kobe does a lot of philanthropic work in LA as a member of the city’s basketball team. And, President Clinton has been consistent in providing services for the people who need them most through the Bill Clinton Global Initiative. Bill and Kobe joined forces to help people with mental illness find “Hope, Help, and Home” through the Step Up on Second charity gala. The event was made possible by The Bill Clinton Global Initiative in partnership with the Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation and also served as the grand opening for Step Up on Vine.
Step Up On Second provides support and resources to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness to reintegrate them into the community. They provide long-term support of people in recovery and their families, offering quality housing, educational, social and work experience. And, in increasing public understanding of mental illness. As part of their commitment they acquired housing units for individuals identified as the most vulnerable in Hollywood. On Monday, they celebrated the completion of a permanent supportive housing project in Hollywood – Step Up On Vine, which is part of a Clinton Global Initiative commitment.
