The 55th Annual Grammy Awards did not disappoint! It was definitely much more subdued than past years – outfit wise, but the stars brought their A-game, hip-high slits, and midriffs. Almost all following the rules of no “puffy bare” exposed areas… We really get a look at the trends for this year’s events – black tie galas, cocktail parties, weekend brunches and if you have an event where you can really push the envelope – they’ve got you covered (or not).
Here are a few standout looks:
Rihanna looked magnificent in this red floor length Alia gown. This is great for any red carpet event – just make sure its not sheer…
Katy Perry in Gucci. Va va va voom! If you have the body for this one, do it! This sorbet colored long sleeved Gucci dress with the bejeweled collar is EVERYTHING! This is great for those springtime galas.
Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra. This is a beautiful dress that most assuredly pushes the envelope… But, with lining in the bottom this could be appropriate for your black tie event. Remember, galas are business events so this would have to be toned down a bit – unless you’re a rock star (literally).
Nas – So smooth! It’s great for a black tie event and totally steps out of the ordinary. This brown Bironi tux looked great against his skin.
Chris Brown in Lanvin. This was different. And, I absolutely loved it! Not quite sure how this would play at a black tie event in real life. I’m leaning toward this not working there. But, it may be great for a summer event in the Hamptons.
Beyonce in Osman Yousefzada. She can do no wrong! She is always so well put together and so beautiful! This wouldn’t necessarily work for me at a classic black tie gala, but it works for the Grammys. Maybe that’s the exact reason that it would work at a black tie. I think it needs a bit more umph though.
Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford. This was different. Usually, men have but so many ways they can wear a black tux, but this was an interesting spin. The fabric glimmers and shimmers dancing on camera. This must have looked heavenly on the carpet.
Taylor Swift in J Mendel was perfection. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
Carrie Underwood in in Roberto Cavalli. She is so amazing.
America’s Next Top Model All Star Lisa D’Amato (Only at the Grammys)
Alicia Keys was sexy and appropriate in this Alaïa. The cut out and leather is edgy, but it doesn’t cross the line.
Chrissy Teigen in Joy Cioci giving midriff and leg. Beautiful! Again, if you have the body for this, go for it!
Kelly Osbourne in Paule Ka. Lovely. Similar to Alicia Key’s dress, but more traditional.
Alexa Chung in Valentino… Valentino is everything. This would would be more appropriate for a brunch event or a day time cocktail party.
Estelle in Love Collins. Not sure how I feel about this dress. Estelle’s body looks great though!
Faith Hill in J. Mendel. This dress can be great for the black tie, the evening cocktail party or event. I love the sheer with details. Beautiful.
Drake was classically handsome.
Those Knowles sisters really know how to WORK IT! Solange is giving great leg in this Ralph & Russo dress that sparkles and shimmers.
Erica Atkins-Campbell looks fantastic in this black dress with leather details. The pop of animal print fun in the shoes jazzes up the outfit. I would wear this to work, an after work event, an evening cocktail party. If she wore statement necklace or the dress was floor length, it would be perfect for a black tie.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! the colored tux coupled with the skinny tie on Mario Lopez!
John Legend. I like this look, but it needs something…
This was one of my faves! RedFoo’s short tux was such a treat. Wearing this to a black tie event, is risky, but it would have to be the right event. He’s a rockstar so he can do this all day long, but I would love to go to an event and see this.
Maria Menounos in Gomez-Gracia. Color is the theme here! Just because it’s black tie, doesn’t mean it has to be black. This is fabulous!
Love this Rocsi Diaz in this. Great outfit for many occasions.
Janelle Monae was on brand… I’d rock it!
Lupe Fiasco… I’m assuming that’s his mother. Love her dress. It fits her beautifully. It’s sexy but age appropriate.
Wiz in Tom Ford and Amber in Donna Karan. Both looked great! Great choices.
Love, love, love Tamia in this dress! Very flattering. I’m all about a turban, but I think that her look would be dressed up more with fully coiffed and flowing hair.
Rick Ross went with the full look – cigar included.
Prince was giving us LIFE with this textured hooded jacket.. Only Prince, Only at the Grammys, Only for rockstars! But, I’m fully advocate wearing this when pushing the envelope and edgy is who you are and what you do!
