DeMarco Morgan is one of my favorite people! I didn’t realize how much I thoroughly enjoyed watching him as an anchor when he was NBC 4 New York until he left. Clearly, I didn’t realize what I had got until he was gone. Now, he’s serving as an anchor at NBC 11 Alive News in Atlanta where I’m sure he’s bringing his incredible sense of humor and engaging big brother-like demeanor to the newscasts.
As an event host he’s such a joy, because he makes what could be stuffy or marathon events a lighthearted good time with appropriate periods of somberness or seriousness. His incredible sense of humor and the personal touch that he adds through his own experiences and inspirational words connected to the cause makes you feel like you’re among friends sharing a laugh. That’s why I was so excited when I read that he’s going to be the host of the Harlem YMCA Black Achievers in Industry Awards on Wednesday, March 13th.
This annual event pays national tribute to the corporate leadership and community service of black achievers in industry and serves as a vehicle for the Harlem YMCA, corporations, and local organizations to partner and provide mentoring programs, scholarships, and other opportunities. These collective efforts fuel a future-leader incubator for the youth and teens of the Harlem community.
Black Achievers in Industry is a vital program that encompasses youth mentoring programs, college scholarships, a historically black college tour, corporate internships and year-long community outreach,” says Tiffeny Forrest, Executive Director of the Harlem YMCA. “This annual gala affords all of our community stakeholders with the opportunity to come together to celebrate their accomplishments and inspire the next generation of leaders.”
The 43rd Annual National Salute to Black Achievers in Industry (bai) Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Wells Fargo will be on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel. I’m looking forward to seeing DeMarco in action while enjoying what will be a great event in support of New York’s own Harlem community.
