New York Needs You (NYNY), a NYC-based nonprofit working with high-achieving, low-income college students, is pleased to announce its second annual BBQ & You fundraiser, in partnership with ‘wichcraft. The event will take place on Tuesday, June 18th, at the Southwest Porch in Bryant Park with ‘wichcraft serving as the event sponsor for a second straight year. Throughout the evening, guests will dine on barbecue and seasonal American fare from ‘wichcraft, craft beer from Peak Organic Brewing Company, wine from Apothic, all while enjoying live music provided by Talisman. Attendees will have the chance to learn more about NYNY’s programs and network with young professionals.
BBQ & You will raise money and awareness for NYNY’s programs to support students in their career development process. Over the course of its two-year Fellows program, NYNY’s 200 students (Fellows) are paired with outstanding, young professional Mentor Coaches. The pairs meet twice a month at Saturday workshops, providing Fellows the chance to work on professional skills, including resume writing, interviewing and networking. The Fellows Program is in its fourth year, and it also includes clothing days, job shadowing days, internships, and professional development grants for its students. Through the support of NYNY, students have interned at organizations such as Macy’s, American Express, The Clinton Global Initiative and have obtained distinctions such as the Marshall Scholarship. The Program also recently expanded its offerings to New Jersey.
Last year, the fundraiser netted over $10,000 to support NYNY’s work. “We were thrilled to have such a great turnout last year,” says PJ Kim, CEO of NYNY. “Our volunteers are instrumental in our Fellows’ success, so it was great to share our program with so many new people and invite them to join our community. We look forward to even more success this year!”
‘wichcraft, an ongoing partner of NYNY, is pleased to renew its commitment to the organization. “The work NYNY does is so important,” says ‘wichcraft co-founder and CEO Jeffrey Zurofsky. “We are delighted to once again sponsor a spectacular evening in support of NYNY’s students and volunteers. We hope our guests will enjoy great food, drinks and music at the Southwest Porch.”

’wichcraft was founded in 2003 by partners Sisha Ortuzar, Jeffrey Zurofsky, and Tom Colicchio, chef and owner of the Craft family of restaurants and head judge of Bravo’s Top Chef. The three had a long history of working together in fine dining restaurants such as Manhattan’s top-rated Gramercy Tavern and Craft, but this collaboration was decidedly more casual. They created ’wichcraft, a hand crafted sandwich service like no other. For more information on ‘wichcraft, please contact email@example.com.

New York Needs You
NYNY fights for economic mobility for ambitious, low-income college students. We do this by providing intensive career development, mentorship and leadership training to enable students to realize their academic and career aspirations. NYNY aims to build a movement of like-minded individuals who believe that one day there will be no barriers to economic mobility for students with ambition and ability. By mobilizing, training, supporting and rewarding volunteers we will ensure that students from low-income backgrounds attending under-resourced colleges have the support, information and access necessary to realize their career aspirations.
