Savannah James Hosts 2nd Annual “Savannah’s I PROMISE Makeover”

Yesterday, nearly fifty pre-selected high school senior girls from local Akron public schools had the opportunity of a lifetime to participate in Savannah James’ second annual Savannah’s I PROMISE Makeover. Held at the LeBron James Family Foundation Headquarters in Akron, the event provided the young women with not only a prom dress of their choice just in time for prom season, but more importantly, words of advice and encouragement for overcoming adversity and thriving as a young female. James, the wife of NBA All-Star LeBron James, established the event as a way to empower and inspire young women and assist those that may not have the means to prepare for prom on their own.

“I know how challenging life can be for young girls trying to find their way in high school, so this is a way for me to really connect with them during a special time in their lives and encourage them to embrace their beauty, knowledge, and strength, “ said Mrs. James. “LeBron and I are blessed to be in a position to give back to our hometown, and I feel a responsibility to help others comes with that. I believe strongly in empowering others, and through this event, I hope to boost these girls’ self-esteem and give them confidence that they can be anything they want to be if they work hard and believe.”

In addition to prom dresses and a new set of Beats by Dre, the young women attending the event also received special commemorative pink I PROMISE™ bands. Modeled after the signature I PROMISE™ bands worn by LeBron James, students and fans across the country, the wristbands symbolize a personal commitment to creating positive change and to living an active and healthy lifestyle.

“As part of a huge support system for the Akron community, we wanted to get behind Savannah and her efforts to empower these smart, beautiful, and talented young women,” said Michele Campbell, Executive Director of the LeBron James Family Foundation. “Savannah’s vision of raising these girls’ self-confidence is very much in line with our mission as a Foundation, which is to have a positive impact in the lives of young adults in any way we can. We are proud and honored to help these girls realize and really believe they can achieve their dreams.”

Mrs. James will be hosting a similar event for young women in Miami in April.
