On Saturday, July 29th, the 5th Annual Smaltz Foundation Summer Fundraiser was held in Long Island, NY. Better known as Ken’s Backyard BBQ Bash, the annual event was held to raise funds in support for people with dementia. As is customary for this event, folks came dressed in their “backyard best” to dance to the sounds of PhearNone (Violin/DJ) and take advantage of fabulous live and silent auction items. Leonard E. Burnett Jr. of Uptown magazine served as the co-chair for the event that was hosted by Toni Belafonte.
The Kennenth A. Smaltz, Sr. Foundation, was founded in August 2012 for the cure and care of Alzheimer’s, in August 2012. Money raised by KASSRF goes to a scholarship fund and is given out to families who cannot afford to send their parents to care centers. The centers care for people at all stages of dementia in beautiful, safe homelike environments. They also plan to provide fellowship grants to clinical fellows attending the Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas – a clinical postdoctoral training position for physicians who have completed their neurology training.
